§ 14. Vacancies how filled.

  • In the event of a vacancy in the office of the Mayor or any Councilmember for any cause whatsoever, the Mayor and the City Council or those remaining shall order a special election to fill the balance of the unexpired term of such official; provided, however, if such vacancy occurs within one year of the expiration of the term of office of the Mayor or any Councilmember, said vacancy in office shall be filled by appointment by the Mayor and the City Council or those remaining for the balance of the unexpired term. In all other respects, a special election shall be held and conducted in accordance with O.C.G.A. tit. 21, ch. 3, known as the "Georgia Municipal Election Code," as now or hereafter amended [Repealed—See now O.C.G.A. § 21-2-1 et seq.].
